Please Water Parkway Trees

The village forester requests that residents please water parkway trees. The lack of rain in recent weeks and throughout the summer months is having an adverse impact on parkway trees throughout the village. Younger, recently planted trees are especially susceptible to drought. In drought conditions, trees need at least an inch of water to be sufficiently hydrated. This can be measured by using a coffee can placed on the ground near the tree to collect a sampling of water. Once an inch has accumulated in the coffee can (or other container) the tree has enough water. Tree gator bags are also a good way to ensure that younger trees have enough water. Alternately, place a garden hose near the base of the tree and allow the hose to run at a slow flow for about a half an hour. Thank you for helping keep Riverside green and growing.

Please watch this 1 minute video from the Morton Arboretum for more information on how best to water all of your trees.
