Message from the Fire Chief
Welcome to the Village of Riverside Fire Department website! I appreciate you taking the time to gain knowledge about our history and the services provided to our community. I hope the information provided is informative and insightful, and that you will have a better understanding about the pride, dedication and professionalism associated with the Riverside Fire Department.
The Riverside Fire Department operates out of two fire stations. Our Headquarters/Station #1 is located at 27 Riverside Road and is adjoined to the Village Hall/Police Department Facility. Station #1 is staffed with one fire engine, our front line ambulance, one reserve ambulance and one utility vehicle. Station #1 also houses our administrative offices and training room. Station #2 is located at 57 Pine Avenue and houses one ladder truck, one fire engine, one utility vehicle and our rescue boat.
The Riverside Fire Department is comprised of members who are paid-on-call firefighters. Every firefighter has attained a State of Illinois Advanced Firefighter certification. Many members also hold numerous additional certifications for different firefighting and rescue specialties. Our staffing is comprised of two contract paramedics, who work a 24/48 hour shift rotation. We also staff Station #2 from the hours of 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our well trained and certified staff are dedicated to saving lives, protecting property, educating the community and building the foundation of Riverside to benefit the residents.
The Village of Riverside holds a National Historic Landmark designation and the Riverside Fire Department has played an active role in protecting this designation since 1898. Riverside is approximately two square miles and is located nine miles west of downtown Chicago. Our neighbors include: Lyons, Brookfield, North Riverside and Berwyn.
It is an honor and privilege to be a part of a wonderful, historic community and a member of a professional, dedicated and unified Fire Department. We take great pride in our ability to serve our community.
Sincerely,
Matthew Buckley
