About the Commission

Our mission is to encourage economic development of the community. We work closely with the village and residents to study the retail businesses in the community, and recommend plans for encouraging commercial development and improving the Village sales tax revenue and tax base.

Why Choose Riverside?

As one of the nation’s first planned suburban communities, and one of only two villages in the state designated an arboretum, Riverside is truly the hidden gem of suburban Cook County. Its incomparable design, pastoral setting and unparalleled small-town ambiance offers its residents, business owners and visitors alike the chance to experience the kind of safe, neighborly, American small-town life that has all but disappeared in today’s modern world.

Business Economic Incentive Program

On December 17, 2020 the Board of Trustees adopted the Business Economic Incentive Program.  The program is designed to support existing Riverside businesses in their operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, and/or to better position themselves to operate and succeed following the pandemic.  Reimbursement grants are provided to businesses in recognition of the positive impact to the Village’s economy the success of our businesses can have.

The Village has allocated $8,000 for this program. Applicants seeking funding for projects are eligible for a grant in the form of a reimbursement of up to 50% of the total project cost.

The program will be coordinated by the Community Development Department in conjunction with the Economic Development Commission.

Eligible businesses:

  • Existing retail, food service or personal service establishment
  • Located in the B1 or B2 Zoning Districts
  • Cannot be in default to the Village regarding payments for water/sewer charges, special taxes, assessments, parking or other citations or any other taxes or fees due or unpaid by the applicant to the Village.

Eligible projects include:

  • Signage
  • Outdoor dining areas or outdoor dining improvements
  • COVID-19 safety improvements
  • Online presence improvements
  • Other projects contributing to the viability and continued success of the business during the COVID-19 pandemic and post COVID-19 pandemic.
