The Village of Riverside was recognized for innovation in government and citizen services.
The Center for Digital Government is a national research and advisory institute focused on technology policy and best practices in state and local government. On September 15, in Austin, TX, the Center for Digital Government (CDG) honored the Village of Riverside as a Finalist in the inaugural Government Experience Awards. The awards recognize the achievements and best practices of states, cities and counties that have gone to the web and beyond to radically improve the experience of government and push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered. Riverside was honored alongside the City and County of Denver, CO, the City of Louisville, KY, the City and County of San Francisco, CA, the City of Los Angeles, CA, the Village of Bayside, WI, and the City of Topeka, KS.

The Village of Riverside uses channels to promote Economic Development and proactively uses social media to engage it's residents. Riverside.il.us provides residents, businesses, and visitors with more convenient ways for interacting with government. Residents and businesses can complete over 20 online services and report issues via mobile devices, in addition they can make comments, ask questions, receive feedback, and more. There are polls throughout the website that also provide further user feedback. The Village continues to enhance it's online presence by bringing cutting-edge technology to it's platforms.
