Riverside is equipped and prepared to respond to all hazards. All of the village departments have looked at vulnerabilities and potential needs should an incident occur.
Disaster preparation starts long before a disaster incident:
- Building codes ensure structures are properly built.
- Good infrastructure are necessary to maintain access for responders as well as resident evacuating areas.
- Flood mitigation - working with local, state, and federal partners to alleviate flooding.
- Address known weaknesses such as earthquakes. The New Madrid fault which is centered in southern Illinois and Missouri could have impacts in our area if the plates shift.
