Chief Tom Weitzel is pleased to announce that Riverside Police Department implemented several initiatives throughout 2017 to improve the safety, quality of life, and sense of community for residents.

The 2017 Riverside Police Department Annual Report shows a decrease in overall crime by 16.7% and a re-commitment to traffic safety and community policing by the department.

Overall crime dropped 16.7% this year, however, Riverside Police strongly caution residents to remain vigilant and continue to report all suspicious activity they may see. Reporting suspicious activity has led to solving crimes and preventing criminal activity.

In addition to patrols to target crime, Riverside Police also implemented an Intensified Traffic Enforcement program (ITE) to reduce reckless driving. Officers issued more than 2,000 motor vehicle citations and over 1,900 parking tickets. ITE was designed to send a clear message to drivers that safety-related violations will not be tolerated.

Throughout 2017, Riverside Police utilized state grants to augment the patrols, which led to the significant increase of citations issued for safety related violations.
