Many residents recently received a letter from the village entitled: Vehicle Sticker Enforcement Effort. The Village has not done an enforcement canvas of vehicle stickers since 2010. Since the last integrity check, many residents have expressed concerns about unregistered vehicles. The only way for the Village to verify if someone has a vehicle registered to a Riverside address is through a comparison with IL Secretary of State records. Please take a moment to review your State of Illinois vehicle registration paperwork. This is the slip of paper that your license plate sticker is attached to when you receive it in the mail. If the information on that paper differs from the information on the pre-printed vehicle sticker renewal form you received from the village, this could be the reason you received the vehicle sticker enforcement letter from the village. Please make any necessary corrections on the back of the letter you received so the state and village records are the same. Residents should always register vehicles with the village exactly as they are registered with the IL Secretary of State. This will eliminate future confusion. Residents can also review and update vehicle registrations on the IL Secretary of State's website using the link below. If you believe you have received an enforcement letter erroneously, please contact the Village at vehiclestickers@riverside.il.us and staff will investigate.
If you received a letter regarding a sticker for a trailer, please do nothing at this time. President Sells is asking the village board to consider the current village code provision that requires vehicle tags for trailers at the June 20 Village Board meeting. You will receive a follow-up letter regarding the Board's decision. If the Board decides to keep the provision, you will be given ample time to purchase a tag without a penalty. If the Board decides to rescind the provision, you will not be required to purchase a tag.
