Resident finds two females pressing their faces against window looking inside home

On Monday, June 24, 2019, a Riverside resident filed a fraud complaint with detectives.

The resident said there was a knock at her front door and when she answered there was a couple there inquiring about renting the house for $900 a month as advertised on the internet.

Apparently, someone had posted fictitious information on housing websites indicating that the house in Riverside was for rent. They went so far as to state that potential renters should go to the house and disregard the for sale signs on the house, that there would be someone home. They had details about the property not easily obtained.

The resident told the individuals their house was not for rent and they should leave the property and then filed the fraud report with Riverside Police Department.

Riverside detectives are currently investigating this to see if they can identify the person or people responsible for this scam and if it is originating in Illinois or some other area of the United States.

Riverside Police are warning residents that this scam has occurred before in other communities throughout the United States. In all cases, it is fictitious and meant to harass the homeowners or, in some cases, individuals access houses that are currently foreclosed, abandoned, or where residents are at a second home in another location and currently not in Riverside. People then believe they can just go in and send the rent checks to a post office box where the scammers recover the cash. That part of the investigation is still ongoing.

The home in question was valued at over 600,000.

Any resident experiencing this type of scam should contact Riverside Police Department to file a fraud report.
