[ARCHIVED] Riverside Police Department joins Ring Neighbors

PD Press Release Header - 7-17-2019

The Riverside Police Department today announced it joined the Neighbors App by Ring to provide the Village of Riverside residents with real-time, local crime and safety information.

Neighbors partners with local law enforcement so they can share official, important crime and safety updates and work together with their local community to build trust and make neighborhoods safer. The Neighbors network already has millions of users and has been instrumental in catching package thieves, stopping burglaries and keeping neighborhoods safe.

Residents can download the free Neighbors app, join your neighborhood and use the app to monitor neighborhood activity, share crime and safety-related videos, photos and text-based posts and receive real-time safety alerts from your neighbors, law enforcement and the Ring Team.

Law enforcement can only view the publicly available content in the Neighbors App, unless a user explicitly and voluntarily chooses to share their own recordings with law enforcement. Exact locations of devices and user information are never provided to law enforcement without a user’s express permission or a valid and binding legal demand properly served.

Do I Need a Ring device to use the Neighbors App?

No. Anyone with a compatible iOS or Android device can download and use the Neighbors App for free to help reduce local crime.

Where can I download the Neighbors App?

The Neighbors App is free to download at the App Store or Google Play.

Chief Tom Weitzel stated, “The Neighbors app is going to help the Riverside Police Department solve crimes and better protect our residents.  It is proven to be a valuable tool in cites around the nation. This partnership allows us to work more directly with residents that are impacted by crime.”
