[ARCHIVED] RPD Community Notification-

Riverside Police Logo with Police Siren Lights in the Background - POLICE ADVISORY

In an effort to the reduce the number of auto burglaries, Riverside Police Department has deployed officers in areas off Harlem Avenue and surrounding streets, conducted operations to identify and apprehend suspects, and met with other police agencies to work on this matter jointly.

Riverside officers are in routine contact with other suburban police agencies sharing information and strategies as auto burglaries have not only affected Riverside but many other jurisdictions in Cook and DuPage County.

Riverside Police have also shared safety tips with the public through our social media platforms to reduce the likelihood of residents becoming victims.

Combatting auto burglaries is a priority for Riverside Police and together we can reduce your chances of becoming a victim.  How can you help Riverside Police Department?

Criminals look for bags (briefcases, backpacks, luggage), that may contain electronics or other valuables. The offenders will usually shatter a window to reach inside and grab items in plain view. An auto burglary only takes a few seconds to commit.

• Do not leave bags in your vehicle that can be seen by looking through your windows.
• Remove ALL valuables from your vehicle, especially laptops, tablets, and phones.
• When items must be left in our vehicle, put them in your trunk BEFORE parking.
• Be aware of your surroundings

• Lock your vehicle

• Call 9-1-1 immediately for suspicious activity

Together we can reduce auto burglaries.  If you have any information regarding auto burglaries, please call Riverside Police Department at (708) 447-2127. Additionally, you can email Detective Sergeant Leo Kotor at lkotor@riverside.il.us.
