The Riverside Police Department was awarded a driving impaired equipment grant through ToxOptix, Inc. ToxOptix, Inc. makes specialized pen lights that are used by drug recognition expert officers, DRE’s, in the performance of detecting driving under the influence of drugs.
The device is used throughout the country and assists DRE officers in evaluating whether or not an individual is under the influence of narcotics. The device is tested and certified for court purposes.
The Riverside Police Department has two stated nationally certified DRE officers and each officer will be equipped with these Tolipox light packs.
The X3 is an all in one tool for Law Enforcement containing; a UV lamp, medical penlight and patented timing system in one device for SFST evaluations and Drug Recognition Expert exams.
Chief Tom Weitzel stated, “For the DRE the X3’s timing system allows Law Enforcement Officers to keep their eyes on the suspect in what could be a dangerous situation in a dark room while running the needed tests. Allowing them to keep their eyes on the suspect and not their watches”.
The X3 also incorporates timers used specifically for the field sobriety tests when pulling suspected drunk drivers over. An investigation based on solid data is the key to a conviction, and timing system provides for easy administration of the HGN Test based on NHTSA guidelines.
This was a no-match grant application and the grant award.
