[ARCHIVED] Riverside Police Add Speed Enforcement Tool

Location selected for enhanced school speed zone safety and residential awareness.

The Riverside Police Department recently added a digital radar speed sign that will help slow down drivers in neighborhoods. The Riverside Public Works Department installed the unit.

The speed sign is equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology. This allows for quick and secure downloads from the sign to a computer. A built in traffic counter stores information regarding vehicle data such as the number of cars as well as minimum, maximum and average speeds. This data is then transmitted to a computer using Bluetooth technology to allow for review and analysis. The unit runs on solar power.

The digital sign is located near a posted speed limit sign on Woodside Road southbound just north of Park Place.  It gives motorists instant feedback as to how fast they are moving.  According to Lieutenant Bill Gutschick, he hopes that the sign makes a positive impact on Woodside Road and the area of Hauser/Central School by encouraging motorists to slow down.

This new sign not only displays a speed to passing motorists, but also collects traffic data that can be reviewed by law enforcement to determine where areas of added patrol are needed. The sign does not collect personal information about vehicles and tickets will not be sent to motorists in the mail.
