Electricity Rate Increase

Lightbulb-up-close

Electric supply rates vary from month to month within a pre-set range.  The current rate of .07069 per kWh can vary from .06569 to .07569 and has been on the low end from October 2020 - January 2021.  However, in February, the rate increased to .07463 per kWh.  This new rate will be applied to bills received in March reflecting February usage.  This rate increase was not caused by the electric aggregation program. Ratepayers participating in the electric aggregation program are charged exactly the ComEd rate.  Since 2013, the ComEd rate has been higher than this only once, in May of 2020, and it should be noted that prior to the inception of electric aggregation in Illinois, ComEd's rate was more than .09 per kWh.

Unfortunately, due to this rate increase, most residents will see a large increase in their monthly electric bills due to the combination of the rate jump and the extended sub-freezing temperatures during February which resulted in a significant spike in usage.  The village's contact at NIMEC, the organization the village works with to manage the electric aggregation program, is available to answer questions or respond to resident concerns. Additionally, residents who have questions about their specific bill should call ComEd at 800-334-7661.  Please note that the ComEd supply rate is separate from ComEd’s delivery rate.
