On November 13, 2021, at approximately 1:00 PM the Riverside Police Department was dispatched to 63 Forest Avenue for the report of a possible burglary to an apartment. Upon arrival, officers entered an apartment unit and located two individuals who were unresponsive. Riverside Fire Department Paramedics were dispatched to the scene and pronounced both individuals deceased. The Riverside Police Department continues to be assisted by the members of the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force in conducting this death investigation.
The victims were transported to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. At the conclusion of the autopsies, it was determined by the medical examiner that both victims died of multiple gunshot wounds. This investigation has now been ruled a homicide investigation. The victims are: Jeremy Lane, age 38, resident of Riverside, Illinois, and Taita Johnson, age 31, resident of Danville, Illinois.
This investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided to the public as information becomes available.
This is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the Riverside community.
