Seventeen year old struck by vehicle while riding bike

On Monday, May 1, 2017, at 7:58 a.m. Riverside Police received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting someone struck by a vehicle on Park Place just west of Kimbark Road.  The accident happened on Park Place at the alley exit between Lincoln and Kimbark.

When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old female sitting on the curb next to her bike at the mouth of the alley.  Officers immediately summoned paramedics to the scene to render medical aid to the juvenile.

During investigation, police learned that the female was riding her bicycle on the sidewalk headed westbound on Park Place.  As she approached the alley, she was struck by a vehicle exiting the alley northbound.

When interviewing the driver, she stated that her vision was partially blocked by garages and the apartment complex on the corner and she did not see the bicyclist traveling on the sidewalk.  The 17-year-old juvenile, a Riverside resident, received minor injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene and refused transport to an area hospital.  Her parents were contacted regarding the crash.

Park Place was shut down for 30 minutes while police investigated; Riverside Police issued one citation for driver failing to exercise due caution and care to a 43-year-old female resident of Riverside.
