CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

Shenstone Road Utility Improvements and Road Reconstruction Project

August 30, 2023

It is our pleasure to inform you that the Shenstone Road Utility Improvements and Road Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin after the upcoming Labor Day holiday.

The scheduled work will involve the following:

  • Replacement of the existing 4-inch diameter water main with a new 8-inch ductile iron water main, including all new water services, fire hydrants and valves. For those residences that have a lead service line, the water service replacement work also includes installation of a new 1-inch copper water service line from the buffalo box into the home of each affected property in accordance with the Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act.
  • Removal of the existing 22-inch combined sewer and construction of a new 36-inch combined sewer that will add additional stormwater capacity to the system between Delaplaine Rd and Blythe Rd as well as upstream tributary areas. This will include a new connection for all sanitary sewer service lines that serve the homes on the north of Shenstone from the new sewer main to the parkway.
  • Full pavement reconstruction of Shenstone Rd including new curb and gutters as well as the replacement of a portion of the adjacent driveway aprons.
  • Upgrading all intersection sidewalk ramps along Shenstone Rd to achieve ADA compliance within the project   limits and replacing various other sidewalk squares that have been identified by the Public Works department.

During construction hours (7am-5pm) the road will be closed to thru traffic and no parking will be allowed on the street. Please remove any vehicle that you intend to use that day from your driveway by 7AM and park on adjacent roadways. Access to the street and driveways will be available for local traffic only during evening hours (5pm-7am).  If you are unable to relocate your vehicle, expect significant delays as the contractor will be reestablishing driveways access as the work progresses each day and will not be able to accommodate all residents in a timely manner. Throughout the construction project, overnight parking will also be allowed on the adjacent streets noted on the map which can be found on the backside of this notice. When parking in the temporary parking areas, please ensure that you are still obeying posted signage and only park on the side of the street that is legally designated. Any cars parked illegally will be ticketed.

If you have a sprinkler system in your front parkway, we ask that you clearly mark the location of these sprinklers, so that we can take precautions to avoid unnecessary damage. Please note that per Village code, the property owner is required to provide the Village with an encroachment waiver prior to the installation of any objects in the parkway. This waiver absolves the Village of repair responsibility for damage from projects involving the parkway. The Village also has no repair responsibility for sprinkler systems or other objects installed without provision of the encroachment waiver; therefore, any damage made to parkway sprinklers will be the owner’s responsibility to repair.

Additional notices will be distributed throughout the project to inform you of any water disruptions and driveway closures. If applicable, we will also be contacting you to schedule your interior lead service line replacement.

The anticipated completion date for the project is November 17th.
