On Monday May 22, Riverside Police Department participated in a nationwide joint operation.
Law enforcement agencies across the nation united specifically from 4pm-8pm to place a strong emphasis on seatbelt violations. Riverside Police officers issued 11 citations to motorists not wearing their seatbelts during this four hour window.
These results were forwarded to IDOT, who will compile the data, and the national results will be released.
This operation was coordinated to coincide with the Illinois Department of Transportation Memorial Day STEP Grant Campaign also running from May 15-30. The focus of this traffic campaign is to remove impaired motorists from roadways and crack down on speeding and seatbelt violations.
Just remember that officers are on patrol and if you are not wearing your seatbelt, you will be cited.
