Dear Residents:
As chief of police of Riverside Police Department, I wanted to extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families of the Las Vegas concert shooting. I contacted colleagues who are in command positions in the Las Vegas, Nevada Metropolitan Police Department to express our condolences in regard to the dead and injured at the concert and to support Metropolitan Las Vegas Police Department. As chief, I also wanted to commend the decisive actions by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and all first responders who ran into the deadly chaos to identify and eliminate the threat.
I also wanted to personally assure Riverside residents that Riverside Police Department is prepared to respond to any threat large or small.
Riverside Police Department is involved in mutual aid task forces and all our officers, including our specialized units, regularly train for these types of scenarios. We provide personnel to these highly trained specialized units and stand ready to assist any of our neighbors in mutual aid when they need it.
Because this is the single largest mass shooting in American history, I thought I would take a moment to let our residents know that your police department stands ready to assist you with whatever threat may come to our community or to the greater metropolitan area.
Respectfully,
Thomas Weitzel
Chief of Police
