Last night, December 1st, 2017 at approximately 11:30 PM, Riverside Police Officers responded to the 200 Block of E. Burlington Street, after receiving reports of shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers found four male subjects in front of a home standing by cars that were parked in the driveway. The four victims were not injured. However, two cars that were parked in the driveway were damaged by gunfire. The victims were in the driveway when the shooting took place. Three of the male victims are residents of Riverside, two are 19 years old and one 20 years old. The fourth male victim is a resident of North Riverside, 19 years old.
Officers were advised that a white SUV (no other description) may have been involved and fled east toward Harlem Avenue after the shooting. Officers checked the area for the SUV but were unable to locate the vehicle.
Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel stated, “Responding officers were on scene within two minutes of the 911 calls. However, the offender(s) and vehicle had already fled. Detectives have been on scene all night and continue to be on scene today. They are taking statements, collecting physical evidence, reviewing cell phone data and walking the entire area on E. Burlington looking for video evidence that may assist in the investigation.” Chief Weitzel went on to say, “This is not a random shooting, the offender(s) targeted the victims who were standing in the driveway”.
Riverside Police are actively investigating this incident, including processing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. No arrests have been made at this time. Riverside Police were assisted at the scene by several area police agencies and the Cook County Sheriff Police Crime Scene Evidence Unit.
